| There is some discussion among smurf collectors whether these are promotional smurfs (bearing country emblems) or whether these are early releases by Schleich to commenorate the Olympic games of 1980. The early mold is shown in old Schleich catalogs with the Belgium emblem which is untypical for promo smurfs which usually are not shown in Schleich catalogs. Per the SCCI letters from 1988, the old mold is the Olympic smurf, which is a special release not to be confused with the newer mold of 20030. Personally, I have no idea what the original intend was and both make sense to me. Both molds are commonly known and categorized as 20030 - Torchbearer |
